Reading
I am the reading teacher at St. Agnes School. I work with small groups of children from kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades. The materials my reading groups use are crafted to support, challenge, reinforce, and encourage success for the readers as they move to higher levels of independence and achievement. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary development, oral reading, phonics, comprehension, and writing skills. I also include the concepts of the Reading Revolution program that was introduced years ago at St. Agnes.
My hope is to just not teach my students the mechanics of reading, but to also share my love of the subject. As Dr. Seuss wrote in
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
